Having previously posted an article about holiday illness at the Lykia World Oludeniz which has been rebranded as the Liberty Hotels Lykia, we have been contacted by holidaymakers who have continued to suffer from a debilitating sickness and diarrhoea bug, with reports that suggest that many others have been subjected to the effects of the Turkey illness outbreak.

Possible illness outbreak at the Liberty Hotels Lykia (Lykia World Oludeniz)

The Liberty Hotels Lykia was previously known as the Lykia World Oludeniz and is currently advertised by UK tour operator Thomas Cook. Report of diarrhoea and sickness bug

The holidaymaker we have been instructed by informed us that they suffered the debilitating symptoms of a gastric infection, experiencing diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain, a fever and chills, headaches and dehydration, and was ill for almost a week. After being served food that was never boiling hot and with certain parts of the buffet not being fully covered, they believe that they suffered from food poisoning, and have been diagnosed with Gastroenteritis. While they were told by the hotel doctor that it was possible that they had suffered an E. coli infection.

Holidaymakers report potential illness outbreak

Many guests affected by the illness while staying at the Liberty Hotels Lykia and have taken to TripAdvisor to share their complaints:


Reading holidaymaker ‘dbway1066’ titled his review “Thomas Cook, thank you for a week of Vomit and Diarrhoea” and says that in his group “3 out of 4 of [them] were hit by the Diarrhoea [and] Vomit bug that [they] now know has been on-going for about 2 months at the hotel.” He continues to say that “Thomas Cook has been aware of this issue and has just ignored the situation, quite happy shipping coach loads of unsuspecting holidaymakers to a hotel who mix with people suffering [from] D&V“. He also adds that he counted “7 other families just on [their] coach, impacted by D&V“.


‘disgruntled186394’ from Newcastle stayed at what was known as the Lykia World this October and says that “no one should eat in any restaurants without sanitising hands on entering and leaving it“. They say that despite the fact that they “avoided the pools” after witnessing queues “outside [the] doctor’s office on [a] daily basis” as well as “adults and children vomiting in garden areas“, four out of six of their group were ill, with their “son [being] rushed to hospital by ambulance“, adding that they “started to vomit in [the] airport and [were] so ill [they] had to ring [the] emergency services“.


In her review titled “If you like to vomit this is the hotel for you“, Tunbridge Wells holidaymaker ‘Chrisy H’ says that soon after arriving they “realised something was not right” as there were “lots of people falling ill“. Despite taking steps to prevent becoming ill, “at the end of [their] 2nd full day [her] eldest child fell violently ill” and was “vomiting all over the hotel room for several hours“.

She adds that “at the end of the 3rd day she went to bed feeling fragile but at 6 months pregnant, put it down to a bad night sleep the night before.” She continues to say that she “awoke just before midnight with vomiting and diarrhoea for the whole night.” After informing them of the situation she was advised by a Thomas Cook rep that they would cover the “costs of the GP for anything gastro related“. After a visit to the hospital she “returned to [their] room to find [her] husband and mother in law had also been violently ill“, and her “daughter then fell ill the next day” and suffered similar symptoms.


‘Microlightgary’ stayed at the Liberty Hotels Lykia for a week in October and says that his “wife and youngest son fell ill“, with his “wife suffering extreme Diarrhoea and Vomiting at the same time throughout the night.” He continues to say that he also “came down with identical symptoms” a few days later.


Coventry holidaymaker ‘nettie 18’ says that a “dreaded sickness bug that is sweeping the complex at present” with “major sickness and [diarrhoea] going on at the hotel“. She says that 3 out of her party of 5 became ill and her “son [came down] with severe sickness and [diarrhoea and] could not leave the room“. Due to taking “immune suppressant tablets” he had “to be monitored by the hospital“. She says that her “daughter was the next to be sick followed by her boyfriend whom the doctor came to in the room as he couldn’t move and said he [had to] go to [the] hospital for 40 [hours].” She says that “there is a real major issue at the hotel with sickness” and “out of the 7 days holiday [they] only managed 3 without being ill.


‘Anna S’ also stayed at what was previously known as the Lykia World Oludeniz in October, and says that her “eldest son who is 9 has come down with the sickness bug“. She says that “Thomas cook are well aware of this but failed to inform anyone“, and “after speaking with management here it has been declared a pandemic […] that has been going on for some weeks now“.


Ely holiday maker ‘Sallyanne S’ and says that “the resort is filthy and is full of sickness bug” adding that “5 out of [her] party of 11 came down with sickness bug in 2 days and some [are] still struggling with sickness.” She also says that the rooms are “damp and [there is a] strong smell of [sewage].” She also says that her “son was throwing up on the grounds of the hotel and [they] witnessed children throwing up and soiling in the aqua park pool (which [they] reported [but this] was never followed up nor [was] the pool shut down for cleaning)“.

Claim for holiday illness compensation
