Update – 9th May 2016: We’ve received further reports of diarrhoea at the Jaz Aquamarine indicating that this may just be the start of an illness outbreak.

If you’ve been affected please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Original Article – 6th May 2016:

We’ve been contacted by holidaymakers currently at the resort who are seeking advice having suffered illness at the Jaz Aquamarine Resort in the popular Hurghada region of Egypt. At this early stage it isn’t clear what has caused their condition, however we can’t rule out food poisoning or poor hygiene as the source of infection. We urge those affected to contact our travel law team as you may be entitled to compensation.

About the Jaz Aquamarine

The Jaz Aquamarine is advertised by UK tour operators First Choice and Thomson as a “luxury” hotel that features a private beach, a variety of pools and a “first-class dining scene”. If food poisoning is to blame for this recent outbreak of holiday illness then we would imagine that guests at the Jaz Aquamarine will see the dining scene as second rate rather than first class.

Diarrhoea in Hurghada

Early reports have cited severe diarrhoea as one of the main symptoms of illness, which could indicate any number of bacterial or parasitic infections that cause travellers’ diarrhoea (also known as Pharaoh’s Revenge), which is common in the region. From the reports that we’ve received so far it appears that several guests at the Egyptian resort have been affected, suggesting that this could be the start of an outbreak.

Speak to Other Guests

If you find that there are more guests at the Jaz Aquamarine who have suffered from similar symptoms to you, exchange contact details with them, as you might need to speak to them to strengthen your claim when you get back to the UK.

History of Successful Claims

In the past we have successfully pursued claims for compensation on behalf of guests who have stayed at the Jaz Aquamarine, who stated that there was a strong sewer smell around pools and showers and that the quality of the food was “shocking and appeared to have been left out for extended periods of time. It appears that since we helped our clients to win compensation neither Thomson nor First Choice have taken steps to make sure that things improve at the Jaz Aquamarine before sending more unsuspecting guests.

What to do If you Become Ill

If you’re currently staying at the Jaz Aquamarine and are experiencing food poisoning like symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea, headaches or lethargy, it’s vital that you make the hotel management aware of your condition and receive medical attention. You should also advise your holiday representative of the situation, ensuring that you receive a written confirmation of your complaint, as this can help when you make a formal complaint and claim compensation for you holiday illness.

Make a Compensation Claim

If your holiday in Hurghada is being ruined by illness you’ll likely be annoyed that your tour operator didn’t do all that they can to ensure that the Jaz Aquamarine was operating at a standard that warranted the money that you spent on your holiday, but there is something that you can do.
