A beauty store manager from Glasgow has successfully sued her tour operator for salmonella food poisoning believed to be contracted from an all-inclusive hotel in Egypt – as has been reported in MailOnline.
Stacey Grenfall was on a holiday with her fiancé and his parents when 3 days into the holiday she was struck by a sickness bug that caused symptoms of gastroenteritis. She was staying at the Sunrise Tirana Hotel in Egypt.
The sickness continued for the remainder of the holiday and when she returned to the UK she was contacted by Environmental Health officers who confirmed the presence of salmonella in a stool specimen.
With the help of her solicitors she successfully sued Thomas Cook for holiday compensation in the sum of £10,000.
Compensation for salmonella
Salmonella is a bug that can be cross contaminated to humans through undercooking poultry and eggs. It can also be transmitted by negligent standards of hygiene, as was observed by Miss Grenfall who commented that the buffet restaurant at the hotel was hardly ever clean and food wasleft uncovered and undercooked.
Commenting on the outcome, Paul Stevens, Simpson Millar’s Group Holiday Illness Manager advised:
“This outcome was a favourable one to Miss Grenfall although she should not have been put through this ordeal in the first place. Any one that has had salmonella knows that no amount of compensation will undo such a distressing ordeal.”
“Salmonella in certain circumstances can be prevented or, at least, the risks of contracting it reduced. Holidaymakers wanting to know if they can sue for salmonella or gastroenteritis should contact us today for advice.”
