20th April 2012 BREAKING NEWS:
Stomach Bug Illness at the Infamous Flamingo Oasis
Holiday travel illness specialist’s Simpson Millar LLP are, once again, concerned to read that holidaymakers have been ill suffering with stomach bugs whilst staying at the Flamingo Oasis in Benidorm, Costa Blanca, Spain.
A large number of negative reviews on the consumer travel forum, TripAdvisor, suggest that poor hygiene may have been the source of this recent spate of illness at the Hotel Flamingo Oasis.
Guests suggest that a large number of families suffered from an illness bug causing profuse diarrhoea, sickness and fever during their stay. These are classic symptoms of food poisoning and when viewed in the light of the complaints received, reviewers may have a point.
Food poisoning is often caused by bacteria such as salmonella, campylobacter or e-coli being permitted to breed and multiply rapidly in food. If the Hotel is storing food at the wrong temperature then bacteria is likely to cause illness and the symptoms described. The service of luke-warm food is serious breach of basis food hygiene procedure according to international guidelines, such as, the Codex Alimentarius!
The Flamingo Oasis’s management has responded on-line to complaints about food poisoning by stating that the Hotel follows strict hygiene procedures, in all cleaning and food and drink preparation.
It has also confirmed that these procedures are controlled by internal and external bodies. Complaints relating to food poisoning and gastric illness at the Flamingo Oasis should be taken seriously and we are currently investigating these complaints with a view to making compensation claims.
We agree entirely with the management of the Flamingo Oasis that holidaymakers who experience illness should arrange to see a doctor to ensure that an accurate diagnosis and treatment is obtained.
In order to establish whether food poisoning was the cause of the recent illness at the Flamingo Oasis, stool samples should be provided to your doctor, as the cultures may reveal e-coli, campylobacter or salmonella food poisoning.
These illnesses are often short lived but they can lead to seriously long term complications in the elderly, young children, and those with compromised immune symptoms.
Guests of the Flamingo Oasis in Benidorm who have been exposed to food poisoning can rely on powerful consumer legislation in the form of the 1992 Package Travel Regulations to make claims for compensation, provided they were on package holidays.
It is understood that the hotel is popular with First Choice Holidays and Thomson holidaymakers amongst other
tour operators. If it transpires that holidaymakers suffered food poisoning at the hotel then Simpson Millar’s travel lawyers can help them recover compensation from your tour operator on a ‘no win no fee basis.’ UK
