Gran Hotel Bali – Food Poisoning in Paradise!
The Gran Hotel Bali prides itself on being the tallest hotel in Europe and one of the tallest skyscrapers in Europe with panoramic views across Benidorm and the bay. This 4 star hotel is in La Cala de Benidorm and 350 metres away from the beach.
The Gran Hotel Bali is an all-inclusive hotel with 2 Buffet restaurants for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and snacks at the Snack Bar. With a capacity for up to 2,000 guests, this hotel is catering for a lot of all-inclusive holidaymakers. So it’s no wonder we’re hearing reports of bad service and food poisoning at the Gran Hotel Bali.
One hotel guest wrote on “Trip Advisor”, “We came back yesterday from a last minute holiday to this “5 star” hotel. The food was appalling, very poor quality meat and fish and many of us ended up with food poisoning.”
Having to cater for so many guests, standards must be slacking in the kitchen to get food out as quickly as possible, resulting in undercooked food. Salmonella is a common cause of hotel illness abroad. Consuming undercooked chicken, raw egg products and unpasteurised milk may contain the Salmonella bacteria.
Another guest who stayed at the hotel in April said “The food was appalling. Food was luke warm unless you managed to get to the restaurant within 15 minutes of it opening.” Food on buffets is likely to be exposed to heat and flies leaving the food dangerous for consumption. There is also a risk that many different people may be handling food on the buffet contaminating it with harmful bacteria.
If you are planning on going to an all-inclusive hotel, the best advice to avoid food poisoning and illness on holiday is to avoid buffet meals as they are the most likely source. There’s no harm in asking if you can have a fresh meal cooked for you or instead choose something from an a la carte menu. Most hotels will offer this option.
